What’s your “words to live by/motto”?

My biggest words for me to you are: Be brave. Be brave to step out of secure borders in order to accomplish your dreams. No matter how big or small they might be. Don’t be afraid of failing or what could go wrong. There is no right or wrong. Every decision will get you somewhere. You can do it!

If you had to describe yourself as an animal, which one would it be?

Someone once said to me my totem animal is a magpie. I think that fits well in some parts. They eat pretty much everything from seeds to squirrels. They are sociable and quite clever when it comes to sourcing food and surviving.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A hearty and warm dish, like a vegetable stew with lentils and rice would be my one to go with.

Where’s the next place on your travel bucket list and why?

For quite some time now I have this dream of doing a long distance hike for several weeks. No named trek in particular, rather creating my own route. This I would love to do in the North (Norway, Sweden, Finland) or Eastern Europe, which is less travelled and visited yet, but a place that has a lot to offer.

My name is Carry, I recently turned 33 and I’ve currently moved back to Munich in Germany where I’m from. But my partner and I have converted a van which will be our full time home very soon. I have worked many years in customer service and as a Travel Assistant, but since a few years ago I made the choice to focus more on my work as an Outdoor Guide. That gives me the possibility to work seasonal and I can do what I love the most: Take people on adventures.

What's your outdoor story?

A passion for the wild, the outdoors doesn’t just happen like that. Well, you either get born into it or you have to light the first spark yourself. In my case I had only little to do with bushcraft or camping when I was a child. Only when I left the secure nest of home, packed my backpack and explored the big wide world on my own did I get to see more beautiful, more stunning and more breath-taking places than I ever could imagine. And most of the time these places were lonely and isolated.

Slowly my passion for the wild started to grow and I spent more and more time outside. Sometimes I just grabbed my pack and a map and went for it. Overnighting under the stars is my favourite thing to do. After studying and a few more months abroad I returned to Germany and accomplished my first Wilderness Trekking Guide course several years ago. I took it one step further another couple of years later, moved to Finland and trained for a year to become a fully certified Wilderness Guide.

As a guide I want to show others the beauty of nature and especially how to live with it. How to feel comfortable on a solo trip and to understand the basics of it. In my opinion we lose the connection to nature and the value of our environment so quickly nowadays.
